The Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami is an integral part of the School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. The Center offers extensive research facilities for education and contains everything needed to fulfill its mission of research, training, and services to children with special needs and their families.

The staff at the Center give special care to identifying the concerns and priorities of each individual and family. The family and professional staff then work closely to decide those services that would best meet all family members' needs.

The Mailman Center for Child Development, located in Miami's busy University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, is a major resource for rapidly growing, multicultural South Florida.

The Center is named for philanthropists Abraham and Joseph Mailman. The 1966 construction of the current site was supported by the Mailman Foundation, the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation, and Federal construction grants.

The Mailman Center is located at 1601 N.W. 12th Avenue, Miami Florida 33136, on the corner of N.W. 16th Street and N.W. 12th Avenue. It is just east of the Civic Center Metrorail Station. (For more detailed directions or a map, click here.)

Drawing Artist:
At the time of this painting, Damian Bailey was a sixth grader at Biscayne Garden Elementary School in Miami, Florida, where he discovered his artistic talents.

Drawing Artist:
At the time of this drawing, Kelley Lynch, 8, was a second grader at Biscayne Garden Elementary School in Miami, Florida, where she was actively involved in a very special arts program. Kelly, who is autistic, has found art to be an important way to express all the wonders inside her.

Damian and Kelly's paintings have become part of the Mailman Center's permanent art collection. This art collection is comprised of work by children who have developmental delays, disabilities, and/or special health care needs. It servers as a constant reminder of the creativity and productivity of all of the Florida's Children.

The art collection can be viewed during regular hours, 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. For more information on the art collection, please see the Children's Art Page.

This program is provided through the support from Florida's Department of Health
(Children's Medical Services) and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
