The Mailman Center serves as the division of child development for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and as such there is much overlap between general pediatrics and development-behavior pediatrics.

The Debbie Institute
The Debbie Institute, a division
of the Mailman Center for Child Development, is a center for early
intervention research, training and service. For more than 30 years,
the Debbie Institute has conducted research on problems impacting children
with special needs, provided early intervention services for children and
their families and provided training for university students interested in
careers in special education, speech-language pathology, physical therapy,
occupational therapy, and social work. Our mission is to nurture and enrich
the lives of children during the critical years of early learning to create
the strong foundation they need to flourish throughout life.

The primary role of
the Mailman Center Nursing Division is to facilitate the
training of graduate nursing students and nurse practitioner
students for future leadership positions in neurodevelopmental
disabilities via the LEND Program. Students from the advanced nursing
programs in several area universities participate each semester
in the LEND program.

The Touch Research Institute
The Touch Research Institute is dedicated to
studying the effects of touch therapy. The TRIs have researched the effects
of massage therapy at all stages of life, from newborns to senior citizens.
