The
Mailman
Center serves as the
division of child development for the
Department of Pediatrics at the University
of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and as
such there is much overlap between general
pediatrics and development-behavior
pediatrics.
Nearly a dozen pediatricians, including
three Board-certified developmental-behavior
pediatricians, participate in nearly every
aspect of
Mailman
Center programs.
This includes training, research, and
clinical service in our interdisciplinary
clinics such as IDES, Behavioral Pediatrics
Clinic, Early Steps, Genetics, Medical
Foster Care, Child Protection Team, and
Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic.
More than 70 residents in pediatrics
and internal medicine-pediatrics come to the
Mailman
Center for
developmental-behavioral training each year.
Our pediatricians and psychologists
also provide developmental-behavioral
pediatrics education for more than 600
medical students at the
University
of Miami.
Our research programs have focused on
areas such as improving residents’ attitudes
towards developmental disabilities,
incorporating developmental specialists in
general pediatrics practice, addressing the
health and well-being of vulnerable children
through child care centers, and exploring
state and federal policy towards persons
with disabilities.
